We're big on supporting local communities throughout New Zealand, as well as a number of national causes through sponsorship.
All stores are locally owned and operated businesses that are proud to be part of the local community. We recognise that we have the ability to help local organisations and groups achieve their objectives and goals by assisting with sponsorship and community support. Get in touch with your local store to apply for sponsorship.
Each year New World and PAK’nSAVE stores across the country partner with the Stroke Foundation to conduct the biggest ever simultaneous blood pressure check.
More than 20,000 Kiwis will have their BP checked, which if identified as high and then treated, could prevent them having a stoke in the future.
According to the Stroke Foundation, every year the programme helps alert thousands of New Zealanders to the possibility that they may have high blood pressure.
Stroke Foundation statistics suggest that if everyone in the country had healthy blood pressure the number of strokes that happen every year could be drastically reduced from approximately 9,000 people each year, or one every hour.
Steve Anderson Managing Director, Foodstuffs New Zealand Ltd says: “High blood pressure is often referred to as the ‘silent killer’. Many people don’t know they have it. As a Kiwi company, we’re proud to support the Stroke Foundation in this extremely important and effective community health initiative.”

Food for Thought
Food for Thought is our nutrition-education initiative that allows local primary school children to further their understanding in nutrition.
Launched in 2007, this educational programme is designed to assist primary school teachers in supporting Year five and six students make healthier food and lifestyle choices. With one in three New Zealand school children either overweight or obese, Food for Thought is an important initiative made free for kids with help from PAK'nSAVE.
The programme, which is to be taught over one school term, consists of a series of posters, over 126 nutrition and food-related activities and allows for students to visit their local PAK'nSAVE supermarket to get a new perspective on making healthy eating choices. To conclude the programme, students will participate in creating a healthy shared lunch that meets the nutritional requirements of their class. Both the supermarket tour and shared lunch are valuable experiences as they reinforce the knowledge gained in the classroom setting.
