PAK Gives Back to Help Lower Hutt Foodbank Heroes

PAK’nSAVE Lower Hutt has made a second annual donation of $10,000 in support of Lower Hutt Foodbank, as part of its commitment to supporting the local community and helping the heroes doing incredible mahi to feed families doing it tough.
Locally owned and operated, PAK’nSAVE Lower Hutt offers New Zealand's lowest food prices while actively supporting community organisations to make a positive difference in the community. The support of Lower Hutt Foodbank is part of a broader initiative called PAK Gives Back, which brings together all the different ways PAK’nSAVE stores make a positive difference in the lives of their customers and the wider community.
Lower Hutt Foodbank provides essential services to families and individuals experiencing hardship, ensuring they have access to nutritious food. The donation and ongoing support from PAK’nSAVE Lower Hutt will help keep the foodbank stocked with supplies to continue serving the community.
Nicole Manning from Lower Hutt Foodbank said: “We’re seeing record levels of demand for food support, it’s up 20% on last year and we couldn’t survive without the support of PAK’nSAVE Lower Hutt. Everyone's struggling with the cost of living and we’re not getting the donations we would normally receive. We’re struggling to fill our shelves, we really are, so the support from PAK’nSAVE is crucial. The store donates product to us multiple times a week and delivers to our premises which is a big help logistically.”
“People accessing our services come from all walks of life, they’re often employed and just need a hand up for a period of time. For example, the other day we had a single mum come in, she’d just had to pay for her daughter’s braces and had no money left over to put food on the table. We were able to help with a food parcel that would keep the family going.”
Karl Marryatt, Owner Operator of PAK’nSAVE Lower Hutt said: “We’re proud to support community organisations like Lower Hutt Foodbank. Their work is essential in assisting families and individuals facing food insecurity and demand for their services is only increasing. In May they delivered a record number of food parcels, supporting 5,000 people. With most of our team being locals, we want to do our bit for the community and give back.”
