Cheese scones

Perfect for a shared morning tea, these classic cheese scones are simple and quick to make. Best served warm straight from the oven.

Ingredients

Method

  • 3 cups Self Rising Flour (+ some extra for kneading and rolling)
  • 50g Butter 
  • Pinch of Salt 
  • 1 cup Milk or water (may need a splash more) 
  • 1 ½ cups of cheese

  1. Pre-heat over 180°.
  2. Rub flour with butter into a bread crumb consistency. 
  3. Add all other dry ingredients and a cup of cheese.
  4. Add milk/water and knead until combined and the dough is soft and not sticky. (add flour or liquid as needed) 
  5. Roll out to 1.5 inch thickness and either cut into ‘rustic’ scone shapes or use a cookie cutter. 
  6. Place on baking paper lined tray and brush top with milk. Sprinkle the remaining cheese on top.
  7. Bake for 15-20 mins or until slightly brown on top 

Tip:

Serve warm, sliced with a generous spread of butter.
