Feijoa crumble
Who doesn't love feijoa season? A juicy and distinctive fruit that is found in abundance in early autumn in New Zealand, feijoas are perfect for baking. Turn all those bags of feijoas into a deliciously simple crumble!

Ingredients
Method
Filling
- 8-10 medium feijoas, scooped out and roughly chopped
- 2 tbsp sugar
- 1 tsp lemon juice
- ½ tsp ground cinnamon
Crumble
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- ½ cup rolled oats
- ½ cup brown sugar
- ½ cup cold butter, cubed
- Preheat your oven to 180°C.
- In a medium bowl, gently toss the chopped feijoas with the sugar, lemon juice, and cinnamon. Transfer the mixture to an oven-safe baking dish (about 20cm).
- In a separate bowl, combine the flour and oats. Add the brown sugar and mix well.
- Rub the cold, cubed butter into the dry ingredients until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Use your fingers, a pastry blender or a fork for this.
- Sprinkle the crumble topping evenly over the feijoa filling and bake for 30-40 minutes, or until the topping is golden brown.
To serve
Let the crumble cool slightly before serving. Serve warm with ice cream, custard, yogurt or cream.
Tips
- Taste your feijoas before adding sugar. If they are very sweet, you may need less sugar.
- Add other fruit like sliced apples, berries, or raisins to the filling for extra flavor and texture.
- For extra flavour add a pinch of nutmeg or ginger to the filling or the crumble topping.
- For extra crunch and flavor, add ¼ cup of chopped nuts (like walnuts or almonds) to the crumble topping.
