Easy sausages and mash
With simple ingredients and straightforward preparation, it's no wonder this meal is a go-to favorite for busy weeknights or cozy weekends at home. Choose your favourite sausages to serve with creamy mashed potatoes and add a side of veggies.
Ingredients
Method
- 6 to 8 pork sausages (or your preferred type)
- 4 large potatoes, peeled and cut into chunks
- 1/4 cup milk
- 2 tablespoons butter
- Salt and pepper to taste
- Gravy (store-bought or homemade)
- Place the potato chunks in a large pot and cover with cold water. Add a pinch of salt to the water.
- Bring the water to a boil over high heat, then reduce the heat to medium-low and simmer the potatoes until tender, about 15-20 minutes.
- While the potatoes are cooking, heat a large skillet over medium heat with a little oil. Add the sausages to the skillet and cook, turning occasionally, until browned and cooked through, about 12-15 minutes.
- Once the potatoes are tender, drain them and return them to the pot. Add the milk and butter to the pot and mash the potatoes until smooth and creamy. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
- Serve the mashed potatoes with the cooked sausages and gravy poured on top.
Tips
- If you prefer baked sausages - preheat oven to 180c and place sausages on a lined baking tray and cook for 25-30 minutes, turning regularly until evenly browned.
- To save time, use a packet gravy that requires no prep, simply stir in boiled water and pour over your sausages and potatoes.
- Serve with a side of vegetables to make it a full meal with added nutrition. Go simple with some frozen peas or mixed veggies or choose fresh veggies like broccoli and pumpkin.
