Slow cooked honey garlic chicken thighs

It’s hard to go wrong with succulent bone-in chicken thighs in a sticky garlic and honey sauce. A few hours in your slow cooker will have the chicken falling off the bone. This is a freezer-friendly recipe that means you can prep over the weekend and defrost the day before you want to cook it.

Method

  • 4 chicken thighs, bone in
  • 2 Tbsp honey
  • 2 garlic cloves, diced
  • ½ cup soy sauce
  • ¼ cup tomato sauce
  • 1 tsp mixed herbs
  • 1 Tbsp brown sugar

  • 2 cups rice
  • 2 cups green beans

  1. Place ingredients in a slow cooker and cook on low for 4-5 hours; until chicken is fully cooked and comes off the bone easily.
  2. If there is quite a bit of liquid, thicken with 2 Tbsp flour mixed with a small amount of water and stir through, cook on high for 10-15 mins to thicken up. Add more flour/water mix if needed.
  3. Serve your honey garlic chicken thighs with rice and steamed green beans.

Tips and FAQs

  • To save time in the morning - you can throw all the ingredients into a large snaplock bag and store overnight in the fridge.
  • Want your thighs to be extra buttery? Melt down some of the garlic butter and toss the thighs with it right after they have cooked.  

Can you freeze the chicken and reheat it once it's cooked?

Yes, cook it in bulk, freeze, and reheat it with no issues.

Can I use boneless chicken thighs? 

Yes! This recipe works well with both bone in and bone out thighs.
