PAK'nSAVE's first store - Kaitaia - turns the big 4-0!

PAK’nSAVE, one of New Zealand’s most popular supermarket brands, celebrated its 40th birthday on 12 June 2025. 

It all began in Kaitāia in 1985 when Gaylene Voss and her late husband Barrie, opened the very first PAK’nSAVE. With exposed walls, shelves stocked with staples like mutton, candles and beef dripping, and a focus on no-frills, the “barn store” was a bold new concept for Kiwi shoppers. Read more here.

We’re going bagless at PAK’nSAVE Kaitaia Click & Collect! 

At PAK'nSAVE, everything we do, we do to save you money and we're always looking for ways to lower costs so we can pass those savings on to you with low prices! One of our first money saving ideas was to ask customers to pack their own groceries, it’s even in our name! 

Bringing your own reusable bags or boxes is better for the planet too, so from Tuesday 4 March we’re no longer supplying paper bags, so please remember to bring your own when you collect.

We’re also making some great changes behind the scenes to make your online shopping experience faster, more convenient and reliable.

Kaitāia Shoppers' Bus

At PAK'nSAVE Kaitāia, there is a shoppers' bus available every Tuesday and Thursday to help you out with your shopping, taking you to and from the supermarket. It's just $2 one way and you'll share your journey with fellow shoppers. The bus departs from
