Our guide to portion sizes will help you reduce food waste and shop smarter!

When buying beef or steak, the amount you purchase will depend on how many people you are feeding, if side dishes are to be served and whether the meat is boneless.

Beef portions per person

Where beef is the main dish, paired with vegetable sides, allow 225g of raw beef per person. For bigger appetites increase this serving size to 300g per person. If using diced or minced beef in a pasta sauce or stir fry, allow 115-150g per person.

Our handy reference below will help you to buy just the right amount of beef or steak:

Bone in roast beef - 4Kg serves 6-8

Boneless beef roast - 2Kg serves 6

Pork loin 1.5-2Kg serves 6

Beef ribs 250g serves 1 or 1Kg serves 4

Steak: serves 1 = 200g Eye fillet, 250g Sirloin, 300g Scotch Fillet

Beef mince: 115-150g serves 1, 500g serves 4
