How long can cooked beef last in the fridge?

You won't always use up food you've cooked, and that's OK! Just ensure it's stored correctly, this way any leftovers can safely be used up. Our tips below will help reduce first waste and save you money.

Cooked beef can be kept in the fridge for 3 to 4 days and can be eaten cold or reheated during this time.

It should be covered and cooled rapidly within 2 hours of cooking to minimise the risk of bacterial growth.

Place the meat in an airtight container and store on the middle shelf of the fridge. Refrigeration slows but does not stop bacterial growth so if you don’t plan to eat the leftover beef within 2 to 3 days, double wrap and freeze for up to 3 months.

Signs that cooked beef has spoiled

Any exposure to moisture or air can lead to food spoilage. Before eating any cooked beef, look for signs that it has gone off: if it has a sour odour of rotten eggs, a green tint, or a slimy, mushy texture, you are looking at rotten meat that must be thrown out.
